About Dawn Roberts

Dawn Roberts grew up in Carbondale and has deep roots in the community, going back three generations. Dawn is passionate about improving the lives of her neighbors through informed, thoughtful public service.

Dawn’s career has been marked by a commitment to community well-being and active engagement. She has extensive experience working in various sectors, including project management at IBM, and in public health with SIU’s School of Medicine Center for Rural Health and Social Service Development, where she dedicated her efforts to addressing opioid use disorder, helping veterans, and advocating for mental health support.

After returning to the area in 2018, she purchased a home and has been actively involved in the local community ever since. Her memories of growing up in Carbondale—whether it was having soft serve at DQ on the Strip or attending Sunset Concerts—fuel her desire to preserve and enhance the vibrant, welcoming atmosphere of the city.

Dawn’s connection to her Jewish heritage and her active involvement with Congregation Beth Jacob play a significant role in her life, shaping her commitment to fostering a strong, supportive community. She believes that in a small community like Carbondale, everyone should be helping one another. This belief drives her dedication to making Carbondale a place where all residents feel valued and heard.

In her campaign for City Council, Dawn is focused on bringing fresh perspectives to local government, with an emphasis on transparency, fairness, and sustainable development. She believes in the potential of Carbondale to be a place where everyone can thrive, and she is committed to making that vision a reality.

When she’s not working or studying, Dawn enjoys riding motorcycles, an avid hobby she’s pursued for 25 years, and spending time exploring the natural beauty of Southern Illinois.

Dawn Roberts is running for Carbondale City Council to be your voice and advocate for a brighter future for all residents. Together, let’s build a stronger, more resilient Carbondale.
